Alternate Assessment for AS.1-9
After thinking about the test I gave on Tuesday, I realized that the questions I asked on the test did not reflect the big-picture ideas that I want students to take away from the unit of study on the history of atomic theory. Here's the new assessment:
Due Date: Beginning of the hour on Thursday February 21, 2013
Alternate assessment for AS.4.9
If you choose to do this alternate assessment, it will replace ALL the scores earned on the first AS.4-9 assessment with the score that you earn on this assessment.
Write an essay that uses the ideas of experiments, evidence, inferences, discoveries, theory, and graphical models. Explain how the ideas about matter changed between one scientist’s work and another scientist’s work. Include an explanation of why the new discovery was significant. You may choose the two scientists.
What I am looking to see in your essay is your ability to connect the big ideas that we’ve been discussing over the last few weeks.
Use this page, front and back, to write your essay. You should probably write a rough draft on a separate sheet of paper. You may use your science notebook as a resource. This work should be only yours – no collaboration with other students is allowed.
